Children of America Educational Childcare & Academy hopes to raise thousands of dollars for those affected by Hurricane Sandy by selling specially designed shirts that commemorate the difficult storm. "Restore The Shore" t-shirts are available at all Children of America locations for $10 each, with proceeds slated to benefit American Red Cross disaster relief efforts.

As Hurricane Sandy was bearing down in the northeast, parents and employees living in the path of the storm were quickly informed of school closures with the use of text messaging, email and social media. By incorporating these technologies into their emergency alert system, families and employees receive a communication alert, which helps to prevent unnecessary travel when dangerous weather exists.

Children of America Educational Childcare & Academy will open its first Long Island facility later this month in Setauket at 6 S. Jersey Ave. The 10,000-square-foot facility, slated to open Aug. 25, will serve 180 children of all ages, from infants up to fifth grade.

Four students from the Children of America Educational Childcare & Academy in Crofton, Md., recently experienced the high honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Students were chosen to participate in the ceremony in Washington, DC, based on essays they wrote that addressed what honoring the tomb at Arlington National Cemetery would mean to them.

That's the first — and most obvious — security feature of this center, which opened this month at 16124 S. LaGrange Road, behind Mimi's Cafe.

The doors of 8701 Germantown Ave. have been closed to Chestnut Hill residents since the Border's bookstore went out of business. Two and a half years later they opened again as Children of America (COA) held the grand opening on Saturday.
